Premarital counselling

Planning a wedding takes a great deal of attention. Premarital counselling sets aside time for the marriage itself: the conversations that are easy to put off while there are venues, guest lists and families to manage.

It is not only for couples with problems. Many of the couples who come to us are happy and simply want to start married life with fewer surprises and better tools for the hard days that every marriage has.

What we talk about

Every couple is different, so the sessions follow what matters to you. Topics that often come up include expectations about roles at home and at work, money and how decisions about it will be made, where and how you will live, children and timing, and the place of each of your families in your life together.

In many Indian families, a marriage joins two households, not just two people. We make room to talk about parents and in-laws, about traditions you each bring, and about how the two of you will handle it when family expectations and your own wishes pull in different directions.

We also look at how you handle conflict now. Every couple disagrees. What matters is how you raise a concern, how you listen, and how you repair afterwards. Practising this before the wedding is far easier than learning it in the middle of a crisis.

How it works

Premarital counselling is usually a short series of sessions with both of you together. In the first session we get to know you as a couple, hear how you met and what you are looking forward to, and agree on the topics you most want to cover.

Some sessions may feel light and others may raise things you have not discussed before. That is useful. It is far better to discover a difference in a calm room than for the first time after the wedding.

For couples from different backgrounds

If you come from different religions, regions, languages or countries, or if one of you has grown up abroad, there can be extra layers to work through, both between you and with your families. We are glad to help you find a shared way forward that respects where each of you comes from.

In person or online

You can meet us at our studio in Nerul, Navi Mumbai, or join by private video from anywhere. Online sessions are a good fit for couples who live in different cities or countries before the wedding.
