For Indians living abroad

Online therapy for Indians abroad

Living away from India can be exciting and lonely at the same time. Many Indians abroad carry pressures that are hard to explain to someone who did not grow up with them: the weight of family expectations, the pull between two cultures, and the sense of being responsible for people thousands of kilometres away.

We work online with Indians in the United States and around the world. You will not need to explain what a joint family is, why your parents call every day, or why a decision about marriage involves more than two people.

What people often bring

Family expectations from a distance

Parents who worry, relatives who ask when you will marry or come home, guilt about not being there as they age. Distance does not make these pressures smaller. Often it makes them harder to talk about.

Living between two cultures

Feeling too Indian in one place and not Indian enough in the other. Questions about identity, belonging and which traditions to keep, especially for those raising children abroad.

Work, visas and pressure to succeed

The weight of a career that carried you overseas, uncertainty about visas and plans, and the feeling that you cannot admit to struggling when everyone at home believes you have made it.

Relationships across borders

Couples where one partner grew up in India and the other did not, long-distance relationships, intercultural marriages, and families making big decisions across time zones.

Loneliness and starting over

Building a life without the network you grew up with: friends, family, festivals and the small, familiar rhythms of home.

Time zones, including the US

India is many hours ahead of the United States, so we arrange appointments to suit your time zone rather than ours. When you get in touch, tell us where you live and when you are usually free, and we will find a regular time that works. The same applies to clients in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Australia.

Sessions take place by private video link. You can join from home, from work or while travelling, and if you visit India you are welcome at our studio in Nerul, Navi Mumbai.

Sessions are available in English and Hindi, and in Marathi with Dr. Neha Achrekar. You are free to move between languages as you talk.

Ways we can help

Family sessions can include parents in India and children abroad in the same video call. How online sessions work.
