Therapy for teens and young adults
The teen and young adult years ask a great deal of a person. Exams, friendships, first relationships, social media, career choices and the question of who you are, all arriving at once. Therapy offers a space to slow down and think it through with someone who is not a parent or a teacher.
We work with teenagers and with young adults in college or early in their working lives. We meet them where they are, with respect, and without lectures.
What young people often bring
Pressure around marks, entrance exams and the future. Worry in social situations, or feeling left out. Friendships that have gone wrong. Arguments at home. Struggling to sleep, or spending more time on screens than feels good. Questions about identity, relationships or what to study. Some young people cannot name what is wrong and simply feel flat, irritable or overwhelmed. All of this is welcome.
How it works
For a teenager, the first conversation usually includes a parent or guardian, so that everyone understands how sessions will work. After that, most sessions are with the young person on their own. That privacy matters: young people talk more freely when they know what they say will not be passed on word for word.
We are clear with everyone, from the first session, about the limits of that privacy. If we were ever worried about a young person being at serious risk, we would act to keep them safe and would involve a parent or guardian. Outside of that, we agree with the young person what, if anything, will be shared with their family.
Sessions are practical as well as reflective. We might work on handling exam stress, managing strong feelings, speaking up for yourself, or getting through a tough conversation at home. The young person sets much of the agenda.
Young adults
Young adults usually come on their own and make their own arrangements. Common themes include moving away from home, the gap between college and working life, comparison with peers, early career decisions and relationships.
Parents are part of the picture
Parents often want to know how to help. With the young person’s agreement, we can offer a separate conversation with parents, or suggest parenting support or family sessions alongside the individual work.
In person or online
Sessions can be at our studio in Nerul, Navi Mumbai, or by private video. Many young people find online sessions easier to fit around school, college or work, and some simply feel more at ease joining from their own room.
